PRINCIPLE:
Soluble
aspirin tablets are also called as dispersible aspirin tablets belong to
category of. effervescent tablets. These are the tablets designed to produce a
solution rapidly with the release of cc2 and water. These tablets are prepared
by compression of active ingredient with the mixture of organic acids such as citric
acid or tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate. When such tablets are dropped
into water a chemical reaction take place between acid and soluble bicarbonate
to form the sodium salt of the acid and produce CO2 and water.
Advantages of effervescent tablets:
·
Provide extemporaneously means of solution.
Containing accurate dos.
·
Effervescent tablets are less
irritating to stomach.
·
Neutralization of gastric content is
rapid.
Soluble aspiring tablets are prepared by wet granulation method.
PROCEDURE:
Weight
required quantity of aspirin, citric acid, fumaric acid and HPMC in fine
powder. Place them in a dry mortar and add sufficient amount of isopropyl
alcohol and mix uniformly until a cohesive mass is produced.
Pass
this coherent mass to sieve number 12 and dry these granules in the hot air
oven at a temperature pf 30° - 40°C. Weigh the required quantity of sodium
bicarbonate grind well and add sufficient quantity of syrup. Mix until a
coherent mass is produced. Note the volume of syrup used. Pass the moist
through sieve no. 12 and dry the granules at 60°C
Note
the weight of granules and fines for both granules. To the granules and fines
equivalent to 15% weight of granules. Find out the proportion of sodium
bicarbonate granules to be mixed with aspirin granules. After mixing the
required quantity of sodium bicarbonate granules add boric acid 2% of total
granular weight. Subject the material for the compression.
DISCUSSION:
In this tablet preparation
·
Aspirin used as Active ingredient.
·
Citric acid and Turmeric acids helps in
dissolving aspirin and produce effervescence.
·
Sodium bicarbonate as to produce
effervescence and helps to disperse aspirin.
·
HPMC in isopropyl alcohol as
non-aqueous Binding agent (since aspirin undergoes hydrolysis)
Sucrose as Sweetening agent.
Sucrose as Sweetening agent.
·
Boric acid as Glidant and Lubricant.
