ANTIANXIETY PROPERTY OF BASELLA ALBA LINN LEAVES EXTRACT IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS - OBJECTIVES
2.
OBJECTIVES
The literature reveals that anxiolytic activity on Basella alba leaves has not been
reported. In view of this, flowers of Basella
alba has been selected for anxiolytic activity on experimental animals.
The present study is therefore plan with the following objectives:
1.
To collect flowers and shade
dry leaves of Basella alba, stored in
well sealed cellophane bags and then coarsely powdered.
2.
To prepare various extracts
(petroleum ether, chloroform, ethanol and aqueous extract) by successive
extraction technique of the leaves of Basella
alba.
3.
To carryout preliminary
phytochemical analysis of crude extracts for the detection of the type of
phytoconstituents present.
4.
To study the acute toxicity for
determination of LD50 of the extracts in albino mice.
- Evaluation of various solvent
extracts of Basella alba leaves for its anxiolytic activity by
following models-
- Elevated plus maze model.
- Hole and board test.
- Light and dark box test.
- Open field test.
