OBJECTIVES - AXIOLYTIC PROPERTY OF CAESALPINIA PULCHERRIMA LEAVES EXTRACTS IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMALS
OBJECTIVES
The literature review
reveals that anxiolytic activity of Caesalpinia pulchirrima leaves has
not been reported. In view of this, the present study is aimed to investigate
the anxiolytic activity of the Caesalpinia pulchirrima leaves with the following
objectives:
1)
Collection and extraction of Caesalpinia pulchirrima leaves.
2)
Authentication and characterization of the plant material.
3)
Extraction of Caesalpinia pulchirrima leaves with suitable solvents, such as petroleum ether, chloroform, ethanol and water.
4)
To carryout preliminary phytochemical analysis
of crude extracts for the detection of the type of phytoconstituents present.
5)
To determine the dose range of extracts of Caesalpinia pulchirrima leaves
by conducting acute toxicity studies as per OECD guidelines.
6)
To evaluate the effect of Caesalpinia pulchirrima leaves extracts at
different doses for anxiolytic potential in mice and rats in the following
models.
a)
Elevated Plus-Maze test in mice.
b)
Hole-board test in rats.
c)
Light-dark model transition test in mice.
