Evaluation of Ciprofloxacin HCL65

Standard calibration curve for ciprofloxacin HCL in pH 1.2 M HCL buffer:

Stock Solution:

Accurately weighted quantity of 100mg Ciprofloxacin HCL was dissolved in 0.1N Hcl using 100ml volumetric flask and volume was made upto 100ml distill water to produce 1mg/ml of solution.

Sub Stock Solution:

From the above stock solution a series of dilution viz., 2, 4, 6, 8, 10mg/ml were prepared respectively. The absorbance was measured at 271 nm using PG instrument T80 model UV/VIS spectrophotometer against reagent blank and graph was plotted as shown in table 4.

Preparation of Floating tablets of ciprofloxacin HCL65

Preparation of Ciprofloxacin HCL Floating Tablets

In the present work, wet granulation method has been employed to prepare floating tablets of Ciprofloxacin HCL with hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC K4M), carbopol 934 P and sodium alginate in four different polymer ratios as per the composition given in table No.4. Lactose was used as diluents along with sodium bicarbonate and citric acid as gas generating agents and PVP K30 (3%w/v solution) as binder, magnesium stearate was used as lubricant and talc as a glidant.

Preparation of Ciprofloxacin HCL Floating Tablets

All the ingredients were accurately weighed, passed through sieve no.60 and transferred to clean porcelain mortar except magnesium stearate and talc. PVP K30 (3%w/v in iso propyle alcohol) binding solution was added to the powder mixture in small quantities, while mixing thoroughly after each addition until a coherent mass was formed and passed through sieve no.44. The wet granules were spread on a paper and dried in hot air oven at 550C-600C for 30 minutes. The above powder was blended with talc and magnesium stearete in the weight proportion as mention in table and compressed into floating tablets on rotatory punching machine (Karnavati Tablet Press) using 9mm concave punches.
