COMPOSITION:

Povidone – Iodine      IP        5% w/w

Metronidazole             IP        1% w/w

Water Soluble Ointment base q.s

INTRODUCTION:

POMET is highly effective microbicidal agent with a killing potential encompassing a broad of microorganism, including pathogenic aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, viruses, fungi and yeast. The microbial activity of elemental iodine is based on. oxidation of respiratory enzymes i.e. its marked oxidizing effect on the amino acid components of respiratory enzymes found in the membranes of micro organism. When iodine comes into contact with them the cell membrane disrupts and kills the organism. Metronidazole acts synergistically with antibiotics effective against common aerobic pathogens.

INDICATIONS:

Wound management (laceration, traumatic wound, infected )vound, surgical wound)
Skin Disorders like Diabetic ulcers, Lepromatous ulcers,-Pyoderma, Cellulitis, Bed Sores, Venous ulcers etc.

APPLICATIONS:

Apply POMET ointment to cover the whole lesion twice a day or as per the physicians advice.

CONTRA INDICATIONS:

Hypersensitivity to Iodine and Metronidazole. Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or those receiving Lithium therapy.

SIDE EFFECTS:

The application of POMET to serve burns or to large area with denuded skin may produce systematic adverse reaction associated with iodine. Skin sensitivity reactions may occur.
