ROLE OF WOMEN IN SUSTENACES OF
MARRIAGE IN IT SECTOR
Any civilization that is built on
money cannot last long. The urge for possession leads the world towards
disaster. People in today’s IT sector have become too much engrossed in making
money. They work under tight schedules and lead a life of great stress. In the
modern world both men and women have unlimited capabilities and they try to
work to the best of their abilities. They lead a sedentary life. In the world
of hectic work schedule, omni present deadlines and cut throat competition,
there is not place for family. It is here where working people face extreme
difficulties in juggling their work and family obligation. It is hard time for
working families, specially parents (wife) as work almost runs in conflict with
their home commitments.
Eg: An important meeting of the office
may clash with their son’s exams, or some one at home may fall ill. Then starts
the fight as to, who has to be at home. The sense of ego starts working. Nurturing
super ego is the fundamental problem of the modern world. Thus the modern mind
gets distracted. If there is a pull of ego on an side, another side they sense
the guilt of leaving the sick people behind unattended and attending the office
work weighs on their mind and leaves them distracted and disturbed.
Thus the eternal pursuit, the
perpetual aim possessed by spirit and the ultimate aspiration of man is the
search for happiness. And this search for happiness we do in everything
possible. But the question is who is most happy in this world? Are big bosses
happy? Are call centre executives happy, simple sales man happy; who who is the
question! The question remains a question.
Yes for happiness is not found in
possessions or promotions. It is found in this moment. It is found in self
sufficient. The unlimited desires leads is to disaster and distraction and
distraction leads to stress anger and frustration. Than what is the solution?
It is high time as to think of it. How to protect the society, how to protect
the marriage, how best can we maintain the relations? The answer is values. We
should have a valued based society. Stop
worshiping mammoth and start worshiping the infinite. Return to the nature back
to our culture. India
is a country of rich tradition. It has got a rich cultural heritage where
marriage institution plays a vital role.
Talking about the institution of
marriage, the book of common prayer says– “To have and to hold from this day
forward, for better for worse, for riches for poorer, in sickness and in
health, to love, cherish and to obey, till death us do part”.
Marriage is a social, religious,
spiritual or even legal union of individuals. This union can be termed as
matrimony. The ceremony that marks its beginning is called a wedding and the
married status created is sometimes called wed lock. In a general sense, marriage is a personal
union between individuals. After the marriage, the personal status of each
individual changes in the eyes of society. As we all know, marriage is an
institution in which inter personal relationships are acknowledged by the state
or by the religions authority. It is often considered as a social contract.
The objective of marriage is many and
people marry for many reasons. People may marry for legal, social and economic
stability, even to form their own unit of family, procreation and education and
maintaining of children, even legitimizing sexual relations, public declaration
of love are the dominant factors. In some cases obtaining citizenship is
possible through marriage documents.
Marriage as a institution has
undergone a sea change. We know a union between one man and one woman as
husband and wife is a monogamous, hetro sexual marriage, which is prevalent in
almost all countries including India.
In case of polygamy in which a person takes more than one spouse which is
common in many societies. Of late in European / Western societies we see giving
recognition to marriages of same sex, gay marriages have become the order of
the day.
Rights and Obligations
A marriage by definition bestows
certain rights and obligations on the married parties and some times their
relatives are also brought under its ambit. They may include:
1.
Giving a husband / wife or his / her family control over a spouse’s
sexual services, labour and property.
2.
Giving a husband / wife or his / her responsibility for
spouses debts
3.
Establishing the second legal guardian of a parent’s child.
4.
Establishing a joint fund of property for the benefit of
children.
5.
Establishing a relationship between the families of the
spouses.
All
these obligations vary from society to society.
Cohabitation:
Marriage as an institution has done a
wonderful service to mankind. It bridges lives in variety of emotional and
economic ways.
Marriages leads to the formation of
new house hold. In some cultures (west sumatra) residency after marriage is Matrilocal,
with the husband moving into the household of his wife’s mother. Residency after
marriage can also be patri local.
Walking marriages have become common
in China (Beijing) in which the husband and wife do not
live together. (They keep away for business purposes).
Marriage is not a pre requisite of cohabitation.
In some cases couples living together do not like to be recognized as married.
(But it has its limitation as each one is in capacitated getting pension or
there can be hurdles to clear immigration formalities. But some countries
permit cohabitation (Australia).
Objectives of Marriage:
- Sex and Procreation: Marriage basically aims at satiating, the body needs. Some people remain childless, either by choice or due to infertility and some may prevent conception. Even there are cases where people have children outside marriage, making marriage as a institution in-capacitated. In USA National Centre of Health statistics reports nearly 35% of birth was reported from unmarried women, rendering children suffer with legal disadvantages and social stigma. In our society through there is a staunch opposition to this kind of practice yet we do come across this kind of nature in IT sector. Sexual relations by a married person with someone other than his/her spouse is normally called adultery.
Marriage of convenience:
In recent
days if we observe, there is a tendency which has crept into our society that
the marriages are taking place for the convenience, which is introduced as Green card marriage. People try to marry for
pragmatic reasons, to obtain a permanent residency (Green card in USA). Under
these condition we cannot expect the marriages to sustain. They may crumble
like cards, so it is the need of the hour to think over it.
1.
Talking about women Francis Bacon says, ‘Wives are young
men’s mistresses, companions for middle ages and old men’s nurses’.
2.
Women in her various capacities has got the power to change
the world. The hand that rocks the cradle can rule the world also.
3.
Value education is the need of the hour as educating a women
is educating a family, we should give value education along with basic
education. A society devoid of value will crumble soon. Parental upbringing is
very important in these days. What reaps at a later stage is what we sow in the
beginning. To be human, you need art and culture also. Mere science and
commerce is not life. A little of charity, friendship fellow feeling, respect
for each other is most essential.
Time management and staying cool are key
strategies to face the life challenges. Concentrating on time management and wise
distribution of the available time to different members of the family could
make huge differences in the family. Have faith in each other, try to
understand each others problems. A little of concern and care is most
necessary.
‘What therefore God both joined
together, let not man put asunder’ – Says the Bible.
So let us together work for it and try
to protect our families and the society.
