INTRODUCTION

 

          CARE in non sectarian non –governmental organisation established in 1946 for the immediate purpose of sending food from American Donors to people in war devastated Europe.  When post war emergency programmes complemented, CARE extended programmes to other countries.  CARE means               co-operative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere.

 

HISTORY OF CARE

 

          CARE was founded in North America in the wake of the second world war in the year 1945.  It is one of the world’s largest independent, non – profit non – sectarian international relief and development organisation.

 

          CARE provide emergency aid and long term development assistance.  CARE began its operation in India in 1950.

 

          CARE India works in partnership with the government of India, State Governments, NGOs etc.  Currently it has projects in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Madhyapradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

 

OBJECTIVES

          The primary objective of care in India was

1.    To provide food for children in the age group of 6-11 years.

2.    CARE India focused its food support in the areas of health and Income supplementation.

3.    It is helping in the following projects

·        Integrated nutrition and health project

·        Better health and nutrition project

·        Anaemia control project

·        Improving women’s health project

·        Improved health care for adolescent Girl’s project.

·        Child survival project

·        Improving women’s reproductive health and family spacing project.

·        Konkan Integrated Development project.

·        Agriculture

2.    It also helps schools by providing garden tools, pumps and improved seeds to grow more food.

3.    It has provided mobile medical vans

·        X-ray machine

·        Diagnostic equipments

·        Eye glasses and frames, medical books

·        Medicine and vitamins

CONCLUSION

 

          CARE is a non – governmental organization expanded as co-operative for assistance and relief every where.  It operation began in India in 1950.  Its formation, objectives, and functions are substantiated in this assignment.  Care-India works in partnership with the Government of India, State governments, NGOs etc.
