INTRODUCTION

 

          The Rockefeller Foundation is a Philanthropic Organization chartered in 1913.  The interest of this organization was expanded to include the advancement of life sciences, social sciences, the humanities and agricultural sciences.  This is one of the non – government agency.


HISTORY OF ROCKEFELLER

 

          The Rockefeller foundation is a philanthropic organisation chartered in 1913 and endowed by Mr. John.D.Rockefeller.  The work of Rockefeller foundation in India began in 1920 with a scheme for the control of hookworm diseases in the Madras Presidency.  Since then, the foundation has been associated with several medical and public health programmes in India.  The establishment of all India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health at Kolkata was in a large measure due to co-operation of Rockefeller foundation.

 

Purposes of Rockefeller foundation

          The purposes of Rockefeller foundation are

·        To promote the well-being of mankind through the world.

·        To include the advancement of life sciences, the social sciences, the humanities and the agricultural science.

 

Rockefeller Foundation Programmes includes

·        The training of competent teachers and research workers.

·        Training abroad of candidates from India through fellowships and travel grants.

·        The sponsoring of visits of a large number of medical specialists from the USA.

·        Providing grants-in-aid to selected institutions.

·        Development of medical college libraries.

·        Population studies.

·        Assistance to research projects and institutions.

2.     Selling up of a field demonstration are (Ballabgarh) in connect with preventive and social medicine and to All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

3.     Support to the improvement of agriculture family planning and rural training as well as to medical education.
